Amina Iman is the sole female force behind Cadre, a brand she’s developed from recycled scrap fabrics sourced from her day job as a liaison between international textile mills and fashion brands in NYC and beyond. Due to the inherent limitations using recycled materials presents, Amina has developed her style without the luxuries of predetermined quantities to create patchwork-esque pieces that blend fibers, processes, and cultures from all over the world. When she’s not running the sewing machine she can probably be found in her home studio making ornate rugs with her tufting gun or hunting through antique stores in the Catskills.

The rugs are Amina’s exploration into her South Eastern European culture, as she comes from a family of rug weavers and yarn dyers. Her great grandmother and great aunt in Bosnia made a living weaving rugs, some of which are with Amina today.

Amina holds a degree in Strategic Design and Management with a focus in sustainable clothing production from Parsons, The New School for Design. She spent a year in Paris where she developed a design-based, fair trade marketplace that creates connections between textile communities to promote sustainable growth.
