Amina Iman is the sole female force behind Cadre, a brand she developed in 2016 from recycled scrap fabrics sourced from her day job as a liaison between international textile mills and fashion brands in NYC and beyond. This lead her to explore various mediums in fiber arts beyond sewing, like tufting rugs, soft furniture, and chainstitch embroidery. Today, Amina has mastered operating the hand cranked 1920s Singer Embroidery machine which has lead to travelling with the machine to embroider on the spot for retail activations, VIP events, and more!

The motifs found in Amina’s work is her exploration into her South Eastern European culture, as she comes from a family of rug weavers and yarn dyers. Her great grandmother and great aunt in Bosnia made a living weaving rugs, some of which are with Amina today.

Amina holds a degree in Strategic Design and Management with a focus in sustainable textile & clothing production from Parsons, The New School for Design. She spent a year in Paris where she developed a design-based, fair trade marketplace that creates connections between textile communities to promote sustainable growth.
